Medical insurance typically covers the cost of areola medical tattooing and scar camouflaging due to the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) of 1989. This law applies in the following cases:

  • Mastectomy due to breast cancer.
  • Prophylactic mastectomies in women considered at high risk of developing breast cancer, either due to family history or the presence of a BRCA1, BRCA2, TP53, PTEN, or PALB2 gene mutation.
  • Breast removal due to the presence of lesions associated with increased cancer risk.

In my experience, insurance will not cover the cost of areola pigmenting for cosmetic purposes or scar camouflaging due to breast reduction, augmentation, or lift. Based on your specific treatment plan, I will quote you a price for these procedures at your complimentary consultation.
